The Margaret River Region was the second stop on my trip, and I stayed at an Airbnb located at the city center – this made it convenient, with everything from cafes, scenic drives to shopping within easy reach.
As the region is renowned for its wineries, be sure to visit a few during your stay. We choose Walsh & Sons and Cape Mentelle -both a few minutes drive away. While my parents enjoyed their wines, we had an amazing outdoor space to play and explore. Plus, the cheese was just fresh and divine. Post wine it was time for chocolate, the Margaret River Chocolate Factory is a necessity, offering both delicious treats and a fantastic outdoor lunch retreat.

We went to Mammoth Cave, which is a really old cave where there are prehistoric items like animal sculptures and so much more. There are impressive rock formations throughout the cave. Don’t forget stalagmites! There is an abundance of stalagmites and stalagtites throughout the cave. The temperature was very cool, it was pretty amazing, especially when you are from a hot country. After an enthralling trip through the cave, you will climb a staircase and emerge in a forest, where you can take either a ten minute walk or a five minute walk back to where you started. Audio guides are provided. Other cave options include Lake Cave, Ngilgi Cave and Jewel Cave.
Beaches— we missed this given the weather but here are some we heard as good options from the locals. Do visit Redgate Beach, Kilcarnup Beach and Meelup Beach. Even though I was not able to swim, I walked aroung Gnarabup Beach but be warned, the water is cold and there are many rocks. A good beach nevertheless.
When it comes to dining, a couple of great options are Swings and Roundabouts, a cozy pizza place with lots of outdoor play areas for entertainment, and Khana Khazana by Khan, an excellent Indian restaurant. Everyday coffee and breakfast was best served in the Margaret river bakery, Aldo and Egberts.
Margaret River was our absolute favorite as the options were so versatile! From trekking near the caves, to beaches, wineries and so many good cafe options.
Don’t miss Margaret River, as it is sure to take your breath away!
