Rome was my third stop, and it turned out to be the most fascinating one. Many people might dismiss the city as being “just another historical destination,” but trust me, there’s so much more to it than that. While it is certainly brimming with history, that history is filled with bloodshed, drama, and legend. Let me take you through some of the most intriguing sights.
A prime example of this rich past is the Colosseum. This iconic amphitheater, once the scene of brutal gladiatorial combat, was the place where slaves—gladiators—fought each other for the entertainment of the Roman people. They battled not only each other but also vicious, bloodthirsty animals. Victory meant glory; defeat meant death. The stakes were high, and the action was intense. Admission to the Colosseum is 18 euros, and it’s worth every cent. You can explore both the underground areas where gladiators prepared and the grand aboveground levels. Don’t miss the Gladiator’s Gate, the entryway where fighters entered the arena to face their fate. There are many interesting facts about the Colosseum, so don’t miss out on this one-time opportunity.

Another must-see is the Trevi Fountain, a stunning Baroque masterpiece. The act of tossing a coin into the fountain has become a beloved ritual for visitors. Each coin thrown holds a special meaning: the first is for a wish for new romance, the second for finding a husband, and the third for a promise to return to Rome one day. Best of all, admission is free, so make sure you take part in this charming tradition.
Of course, no visit to Rome would be complete without seeing the Sistine Chapel, a true testament to the genius of artists like Michelangelo. The chapel’s ceiling, with its breathtaking frescoes, is an absolute masterpiece. One thing to note, however: many of the figures in the artwork are naked, with only a leaf modestly covering certain parts. Admission to the Sistine Chapel is 20 euros, but the experience is priceless.
The final stop on my Roman adventure was the Spanish Steps, a beautiful monument that offers a great spot to relax and people-watch. And, as with many of Rome’s wonders, visiting the Spanish Steps is free!
Rome is a city teeming with history, beauty, and intrigue at every turn. From the grand to the hidden gems, there’s so much to explore. Trust me, a visit to this legendary city is more than worth it.
